Many people are often misdiagnosed, based upon simple, online questionnaires and limited data. Dr. Shaw provides comprehensive, empirically-based psychological, neuropsychological, and psycho-educational evaluations to help you obtain diagnostic clarity, which will help inform and facilitate your behavioral and/or medicinal treatments.
What constitutes a quality, empirically based psychological or neuropsychological evaluation? It must:
- be completed by a licensed professional with Ph.D. or Psy.D. credentials from an APA accredited institution.
- incorporate differential diagnostics summaries and rule outs of other comorbidities.
- be a comprehensive evaluation including executive function, memory, attentional skills, and cognitive processing testing.
- conducted in-person and not via online meetings.
What DOES NOT constitute a quality neuropsychological and psychological evaluation?
- Any evaluation completed by an individual with LPC, LPC-S, M.Ed., LCSW, LADC, other master’s or bachelor's level degrees (e.g., psych technicians) as this training is typically insufficient for comprehensive psychological evaluations.
- Online screenings (e.g., ADHD Online) or other “quick-service” assessments.
- When an evaluation only incorporates screening measures without neuropsychological elements.
- Evaluations conducted via Telehealth or virtually.
- Evaluations conducted by psychological technicians, with limited psychologist involvement.
- Evaluations and reports conducted or written by AI or psych techs, with a psychologist merely signing it.
Dr. Shaw does accept individual psychotherapy patients on a limited basis. Dr. Shaw believes the most important factor required for counseling is building a strong therapeutic alliance.
